Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to our school.

Thank you for taking time to visit our school website.  At St. Michael’s on Wyre Church of England Primary School and Nursery,  we aim to provide a happy, caring, safe and stimulating learning environment where positive attitudes are fostered and where every child will flourish.  Our school strives for excellence, and values achievement; both academic and creative, through high quality teaching and learning within an imaginative and dynamic environment.  Every child is an individual and the needs of everyone are considered. Our children are encouraged to respect their own faith and those of others within our caring Christian environment. We inspire our children to care for their local and wider community, supporting the world they live in and the people they live amongst.

St. Michael’s on Wyre is a relatively small school and nursery, of approximately 135 pupils, in a rural village location.  The school is of Voluntary Aided status, having close links with St. Michael’s on Wyre Church and being integral to the community life of the village and surrounding area.

The school comprises of 5 classes, with 6 teaching staff, 3 of whom are part-time, plus the headteacher.  The school benefits from employing highly skilled and experienced teaching assistants, both to support pupils with SEN, implement intervention programmes and to generally assist in the classroom.  There is also an administrator, site-supervisor and kitchen/welfare staff, who contribute to the close-knit, effective staff team.  The school fosters a caring, positive educational environment, promoting high standards, based upon Christian principles.

We are fortunate to have a small, friendly nursery on site, led by experienced staff. The nursery is located next door to reception class and the Early Years' team work closely together to ensure the children experience a range of teaching and learning opportunities. We are registered for 30 hours funded childcare and Tax Free childcare. We welcome visitors to school via appointment and always look forward to meeting new families.

The school’s Ofsted Inspection, in November 2023, was extremely positive, grading the school as ‘good in all areas’ with inspectors recognising how everyone is ‘cherished’ within the school, the ambition we have for all our children to achieve and the enjoyment the children have in their learning.

Our SIAMs inspection (2019), grading the school as 'good' highlights St Michael's as having deeply embedded Christian values which impact on all aspects of school life. This leads to positive, caring relationships and a purposeful learning environment, which effectively supports pupil progress. The school strives to maintain these standards, continuing to develop further, to provide a high quality of education for all of the children in its care.

This website aims to give you a taste of the school, as well as providing up to date information for parents, pupils and the wider community. We welcome your involvement in all aspects of school life. Your help and support play a vital part in the education of your child. We are always happy to talk to you about your child's achievements and progress.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find the information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the school direct with any queries you may have.
