Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to our school.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our school website. At St. Michael's on Wyre Church of England Primary School & Nursery, we aim to provide a happy, caring, safe and stimulating learning environment where positive attitudes are fostered and where every child will flourish. Our school strives for excellence and values achievement, both academic and creative, through high-quality teaching and learning within an imaginative and dynamic environment. We recognise that every child is an individual and endeavour to meet the needs of all learners. Within our caring Christian environment, children are encouraged to respect their own faith and those of others. We also inspire our children to care for both their local and wider communities.

St. Michael's on Wyre Primary School & Nursery is a relatively small village school and nursery, with approximately 135 pupils. We are a voluntary aided school with close links to St. Michael's on Wyre Church. Set in a beautiful rural location, the school is an integral part of community life and takes great pride in the strong relationships it enjoys with families and the wider community.

The school comprises six classes: Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 2, a mixed Year 3/4 class and a mixed Year 5/6 class. We employ six experienced teachers, in addition to the headteacher. We also benefit from a highly skilled and experienced team of teaching assistants who support pupils with special educational needs, deliver intervention programmes and provide valuable support across the school. Alongside our school business officer, caretaker, cleaner and kitchen and welfare staff, they form a dedicated and effective team committed to providing the very best for our children. Together, we foster a caring and positive educational environment where high standards are promoted through Christian values and principles.

We are fortunate to have a small, friendly nursery on site, led by experienced staff. Situated adjacent to the Reception class, our Early Years team works closely together to ensure that children experience a rich range of teaching and learning opportunities. We are registered for both 30 hours funded childcare and Tax-Free Childcare. We warmly welcome visits to the school by appointment and always look forward to meeting prospective families.

The school's Ofsted inspection in November 2023 was extremely positive, grading the school as ‘Good’ in all areas. Inspectors recognised how everyone is ‘cherished’ within the school, the ambition we have for all our children to achieve their best, and the enjoyment children experience in their learning.

Our SIAMS inspection (2019), which also graded the school as ‘Good’, highlighted St Michael's deeply embedded Christian values and the positive impact they have on all aspects of school life. The inspection recognised the caring relationships and purposeful learning environment that effectively support pupils' progress. We remain committed to maintaining these high standards and to continually developing our provision so that every child receives the highest quality education and care.

This website aims to give you a flavour of life at our school, while also providing up-to-date information for parents, pupils and the wider community. We welcome your involvement in all aspects of school life, as your help and support play a vital role in your child's education. We are always pleased to talk with parents and carers about their child's achievements and progress.

We hope you enjoy exploring our website and find the information you are looking for. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school directly. We look forward to hearing from you.
