Our School Vision for Spiritual Development

“Spirituality is not something we can see; it is something we feel inside ourselves. It is about developing the soul and spirit of a person. It is about awe and wonder, asking questions, finding inspiration, and can be both deeply personal and shared with others.”

At St Michael's on Wyre CE Primary School & Nursery, we believe that every child is uniquely created and loved by God and should be given every opportunity to flourish into the person they are called to be. We are committed to educating the whole child, nurturing not only academic achievement but also personal, spiritual and emotional growth.

We believe that spirituality is developed through opportunities to be still, reflect, ask big questions, experience awe and wonder, develop self-awareness, and explore relationships with others and the wider world. We encourage children to recognise and respect their own spirituality, whilst valuing the beliefs, experiences and spirituality of others.

Spiritual development helps our children to flourish, succeed and live life in all its fullness. It is closely linked to our school vision of 'Shining Brightly, Achieving Greatly, Cherishing Community', which underpins all aspects of school life.

To support this journey, we have recently introduced the Windows, Mirrors and Doors framework:

  • Windows provide opportunities to look out and encounter the world with curiosity, awe and wonder.
  • Mirrors encourage children to reflect on their own thoughts, feelings, beliefs and experiences.
  • Doors inspire children to respond, grow and make a difference through their actions and choices.

As part of our ongoing curriculum development, we are strengthening opportunities for spiritual growth across all areas of learning. Rather than viewing spirituality as a standalone concept, we seek to weave meaningful spiritual connections throughout the curriculum, enabling children to reflect, question, wonder and make deeper connections within their learning and their lives.
