Spring Term

Spring 1 - 2022

This half term our topic is “People Who Help Us”.

This topic is great for introducing the children to new professions and exposing them to people who help us within our local community such as farmers, doctors, dentists, emergency services and more. Each week, the children will have a surprise visitor who will talk about their occupation and allow them to explore resources they use within their role. The Role Play Area this half term has been transformed into a 'Beauty Salon' as we noticed this was a huge interest amongst our current cohort. It is extremely hands on and filled with real props for them to use in their play.

In Literacy, the children will continue to take part in their daily phonics, learning phase 3 sounds. This will help the children when writing their own simple captions & sentences. They will learn the basic structural features of a sentence such as finger spaces and full stops. Writing opportunities are available within the provision to allow children to apply these skills independently.

In Maths, the children will be focusing on various topics. Counting, comparing, partitioning numbers into part/part whole. Not to mention, learning all about numbers in the teens, naming, ordering, recognising and forming them. They will also explore capacity, distance, weight and shapes. Lots of hands on topics to explore.

PE this term is on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon. Children will continue come to school in their PE kit on those days.

In RE we will be focusing on 'stories Jesus heard'.
