Spring Term

Spring Term 1 - 2020

This term Oak Class’s topic is “People Who Help Us”.

We will start by looking at who helps us within the local community such as farmers, doctors, dentists, emergency services and more. Each week, the children will have a surprise visitor to talk about their occupation and allow them to explore resources that are used within their role. The continuous provision activities will also link to each visitor, allowing the children to apply the new skills and knowledge they have learn't. The Role Play Area is normally very popular within the class and it includes lots of costumes and real life props.

In Literacy, the children will continue to take part in their daily phonics, learning phase 3 sounds. This will help the children when writing their own simple captions & sentences. They will learn the basic structural features of a sentence and practice their pre-cursive formation.

In Maths, the children will begin to use language associated with adding and subtracting, they will also explore the term capacity and continue to practice number formation to 20.

PE this term is on a Thursday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor) afternoon.

In RE we will look at stories Jesus heard and stories Jesus told.

Spring Term 2019

This term Oak Class’s topic is “People Who Help Us”.

We will start by looking at who helps us in school, finding out who teaches where, making a map of our school and also looking at how it has changed. We will interview Mrs Cooper, the cook, and make gingerbread men.

We will also have a variety of visitors, including the police, doctor/nurse, RNLI and vet. We will visit our local post office at the village hall and also hopefully visit a fire station.

In Literacy we will be looking at traditional tales, such as “The Gingerbread Man”.

Most of the class know their initial letter sounds, we will now move onto long vowel sounds, and blending and segmenting words.

In Maths our topic is measuring, learning about the language involved – big/small, longer/taller/shorter, heavy/light and lots of practical measuring.

We will consolidate numbers to 10, then to 20 and beyond when ready. Some are now doing basic addition and counting on.

PE this term is gymnastics on Monday and tennis with Simon on Thursday.

In RE we will look at stories Jesus heard, stories Jesus told and the Easter story.

Towards the end of term we will be making things for Mothering Sunday and Easter.
