Who's Who

Our School Team

Mrs Diane Carroll - Headteacher

Having taught across several schools within Lancashire for the last 30 years, I am loving my time at St. Michael’s as headteacher and have thoroughly enjoyed the last 8 years here. I live in Garstang with my husband Mick, as well as my two dogs Patch (a white cross breed) and Paddy (a black Labrador). I enjoy cycling and walking and spend most of my weekends rambling in our local countryside with the dogs or visiting my daughters in Newcastle and Birmingham. I also enjoy exploring new cities when I have the opportunity.

Mrs Melanie Jackson - Deputy Headteacher & Elm (Year 2) Class Teacher

After spending over 12 years working as a Marketing Manager, in 2011 I made the decision to return to university and re-train as a primary school teacher. In 2013 I was fortunate enough to secure my first teaching post here at St. Michael’s on Wyre CE Primary School & Nursery. I was appointed Deputy Headteacher in 2019 and I really enjoy the additional opportunities and challenges that being part of the senior leadership team brings, alongside teaching Year 2 with Miss James. I live in New Longton with my husband Julian and our teenage son Jack. I love to keep fit and healthy by doing Zumba and yoga classes and going on long walks with Sky, our chocolate Labrador.

Mrs Claire Armstrong - SENDCo & Willow (Year 5/6) Class Teacher

I have been teaching for over 20 years and whilst most of those years have been spent at St. Michael’s on Wyre, I have taught in two other schools and have been both a Deputy Head teacher and Head teacher.  I am thrilled to be back and especially love being back in the classroom.  I am so fortunate to teach in such a wonderful school with such brilliant pupil, supportive colleagues and parents. I live in Garstang with my husband, Neil, and my two young children.  My hobbies include running, road cycling, skiing and watching Christmas movies!

Mrs Steph Hogarth- Beech (Year 3/4) Class teacher

Since graduating from Edge Hill University and qualifying as a teacher in 2013, I have worked in Beech Class, here at St Michael's on Wyre. I absolutely love it and it is great to be part of such a wonderful team. I live in Freckleton, where I grew up, with my husband Andrew, my son Freddie and my black Labrador Luna. I enjoy getting out and about in the fresh air and love to spend my spare time walking, particularly at the beach, where I practise my hobby of photography. During the school holidays we try to travel as much as we can, whether it be abroad or in the UK camping.

Miss Ashleigh Brown - Early Years Lead and Oak ( Reception) Class Teacher

This is my 6th year of teaching in Reception (Early Years) and my love and passion for my career grows day by day. I find my job incredibly rewarding and the children never fail to put a smile on my face. I have worked in 2 schools now, both incredibly different but I am particularly enjoying being a part of the St Michael's family and the caring community that surrounds it. I love to dance but this has taken a back seat since I started my teaching career, but it sneaks into my teaching practice when the children take part in dough disco and squiggle whilst you wiggle. I love to go on walks with my little dog, Maisy and I enjoy eating un-healthy foods like pizza and chocolate at the weekends!

Mrs Rachel Shields - Ash (Year 1) Class Teacher

After graduating with a degree in English and then studying for a PGCE, I taught for 18 years at a school in Blackpool. During this time, I taught across both key stages. In 2019, I moved to teach at St. Michaels-on-Wyre and am now a Year 1 Class teacher. I have relished all of the opportunities I have been given and I feel privileged to be able to play a part in educating young minds. I really enjoy being a part of a close knit community and having so many generations of my family connected to the village, it makes teaching here even more special.

I live in Garstang with my husband, son and tabby cat. In my spare time I like to read and sew; I also enjoy swimming and yoga.

Mrs Andrea Green - Bursar

After graduating in languages and secretarial studies, I lived and worked in France, Germany and Switzerland in a variety of positions in export, telecommunications and for an International Organisation.  Since starting a family, I have mainly specialised in Office Administration and Finance.

I am married and have two children.  I love dancing, skiing and country walks.

Miss Suze Wadsley - Higher Level Teaching Assistant

After enjoying a successful career as a personal injury lawyer, I decided to change my career and go into teaching.  For the past eleven years, I have worked in primary education, enjoying specialising in special educational needs, teaching and supporting the children.  I have worked at St Michael's for nearly three years as a HLTA and wellbeing mentor: I adore my job as the children truly bring a smile to my face each day.  I live in Garstang, my lovely hometown, with my two teenage children, Mark and Becky, plus our cat, Kizzie.  My hobbies are reading (I love reading!) and attempting to cook!

Mrs Nissa Renton- Teaching Assistant

started at St-Michael's at the end of 2020 after many years of working across various early years settings and also as a childminder. It has been the best decision, I've made! I can now say I'm proud to be a part of such an amazing team.

I find working with our youngest children within school the most rewarding, to be there to help them grow, develop, and flourish before sending them off onto their school journey.

In my spare time, I love to spend quality time with my husband, my daughter, and my crazy black Labrador. As my daughter is crazy about football, I can often be found pitch side most weekends cheering on the team!

Mrs Claire Peters - Teaching Assistant

I am really enjoying my time working as Welfare Assistant, After School Club Assistant and providing TA cover when required.

I live in Great Eccleston with my husband Joseph and my 2 children Arthur & Albert , who also attend St Michael’s on Wyre. I enjoy spending weekends camping with my family and also walking and training our 5 month old puppy, Percy.

Miss Steph Bone - Teaching Assistant

I have been part of St. Michael's on Wyre C.E School & Nursery since the age of ten years old. I have worked as a Teaching Assistant here for over 19 years. I love my job and working with all the children. I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with my little girls Sephora and Ophelia.

Mrs Helen Mansfield - Teaching Assistant

I have worked in schools for the past 12 years in varying roles and I am currently enjoying my new position as Teaching Assistant at St Michael's On Wyre. My favourite subjects in school are English, history and computing and I have run various clubs from school newspapers to gardening. I live in Cleveleys and enjoy spending my free time baking or crafting, or more accurately making a mess!

Mrs Joanne Atkinson- Teaching Assistant

I have worked as a teaching assistant within several schools across Lancashire and have experience both in mainstream and special education. My family and I moved to Little Eccleston in 2022 and at this time I was fortunate enough to gain a teaching assistant position at St. Michael's on Wyre and I have never looked back. Both my colleagues and the children were so kind and caring from the onset and it is this caring community that makes St. Michael's Primary an amazing place to be. I live with my husband Ben, and our daughter Ruby. In my spare time I enjoy yoga, swimming and walking in the beautiful local countryside.
