Who's Who

Our School Team

Mrs Diane Carroll - Headteacher

Having taught across several schools within Lancashire in the last 28 years, I am loving my time at St. Michael’s as headteacher and have thoroughly enjoyed the last 6 years here. I live in Cockerham with my husband Mick and daughters Alice and Eve, as well as my two dogs Patch (a white cross breed) and Paddy (a black Labrador). I enjoy running, cycling and walking and spend most of my weekends rambling in our local countryside with the dogs, whilst also popping into Wallings for an ice cream treat, often served by one of my daughters!

Mrs Melanie Jackson - Deputy Headteacher and Elm (Year 2) Class Teacher

After spending over 12 years working as a Marketing Manager, in 2011 I made the decision to re-train as a primary school teacher and in 2013 I was fortunate enough to secure my first teaching post here at St. Michael’s on Wyre CE Primary School & Nursery. Last year I was appointed Deputy Headteacher and thoroughly enjoy the additional opportunities and challenges being part of the senior leadership team brings, alongside teaching my beloved Year 2 class. I live in New Longton with my husband Julian and 11 year old son Jack. I love to keep fit by doing Zumba classes, HIIT workouts and going on family walks with Sky, our chocolate Labrador.

Mrs Steph Hogarth- SENDCo & Beech (Year 3/4) Class teacher

Since graduating from Edge Hill University and qualifying as a teacher in 2013, I have worked in Beech Class, here at St Michael's on Wyre. I absolutely love it and it is great to be part of such a wonderful team. I live in Freckleton, where I grew up, with my husband Andrew and my black Labrador Luna. I enjoy getting out and about in the fresh air and love to spend my spare time walking, particularly at the beach, where I practise my hobby of photography. During the school holidays we try to travel as much as we can, whether it be abroad or in the UK camping.

Mr Matt Armstrong - Willow (Year 5/6) Class Teacher

Since moving to St Michael's-on-Wyre after teaching in Morecambe, I've loved every minute; from the children and parents to the staff team, everyone has been really welcoming and supportive. Before teaching, I completed a Masters degree in Town and Landscape Planning at The University of Manchester and spent a while living in The Alps living the ski season life! Now, I've settled in Catterall with my wife, Katie, and my chocolate cocker spaniel, Willow. When not teaching and dishing out relentless sarcasm to my class, I will usually be found miles away from home on my road or mountain bike. If not cycling, I'm usually running around Garstang or Nicky Nook and hiking in The Lakes with Katie and Willow.

Miss Ashleigh Brown - Early Years Lead and Oak ( Reception) Class Teacher

This is my 5th year of teaching in Reception (Early Years) and my love and passion for my career grows day by day. I find my job incredibly rewarding and the children never fail to put a smile on my face. I have worked in 2 schools now, both incredibly different but I am particularly enjoying being a part of the St Michael's family and the caring community that surrounds it. I love to dance but this has taken a back seat since I started my teaching career, but it sneaks into my teaching practice when the children take part in dough disco and squiggle whilst you wiggle. I love to go on walks with my little dog, Maisy and I enjoy eating un-healthy foods like pizza and chocolate at the weekends!

Mrs Rachel Shields - Ash ( Year 1) Class Teacher

After teaching for 18 years at a school in Blackpool, I moved to teach at St. Michaels-on-Wyre in 2019. Having so many generations of my family connected to the village, it makes teaching here even more special.

I live in Garstang with my husband, young son and tabby cat. In my spare time I like to read, sew and draw. I also love to shop - especially for shoes!

Mrs Claire Armstrong - Elm (Year 2) Class Teacher and PPA Cover Teacher

I have been teaching for over 20 years and whilst most of those years have been spent at St. Michael’s on Wyre, I have taught in two other schools and have been both a Deputy Head teacher and Head teacher.  I am thrilled to be back and especially love being back in the classroom.  I am so fortunate to teach in such a wonderful school with such brilliant pupil, supportive colleagues and parents. I live in Garstang with my husband, Neil, and my two young children.  My hobbies include running, road cycling, skiing and watching Christmas movies!

Mrs Andrea Green- School Administrator

After graduating in languages and secretarial studies, I lived and worked in France, Germany and Switzerland in a variety of positions in export, telecommunications and for the ICPO.  Since starting a family, I have mainly specialised in Office Administration and Finance.

I am married and have two children, two cats, Fraggle and Ren and a Labrador called Pablo.

I love dancing, skiing and country walks.

Miss Suze Wadsley - Higher Level Teaching Assistant

After enjoying a successful career as a personal injury lawyer, I decided to change my career and go into teaching.  For the past eleven years, I have worked in primary education, enjoying specialising in special educational needs, teaching and supporting the children.  I have worked at St Michael's for nearly three years as a HLTA and wellbeing mentor: I adore my job as the children truly bring a smile to my face each day.  I live in Garstang, my lovely hometown, with my two teenage children, Mark and Becky, plus our cat, Kizzie.  My hobbies are reading (I love reading!) and attempting to cook!

Mrs Nissa Renton- Teaching Assistant

I started at St-Michaels at the end of 2020 after working across various early years settings over the last 25 years. It has been the best decision, I've made! I can now say I'm proud to be a part of such an amazing team.

I live in the village of Hambleton with my husband, my daughter and my crazy black Labrador. I love to spend lots of family time having fun. As my daughter is crazy about football, I can often be found pitch side most weekends cheering on the team!

I also love to travel, and usually the sunshine and a nice beach wins me over every time.

Miss Jodie Richardson- Teaching Assistant

I joined St Michael's in October 2020 and I have loved every minute. I am a teaching assistant within the nursery, and I am level 2 qualified for the children's and young people's workforce. My passion is working with young children to help develop the foundations they need to start school life. Being part of each child's learning is truly magical. I live with my three children who keep me active most weekends; we enjoy trampolining, walking, and making precious memories. I also love shopping and spending time with my family.

Mr Alex Watt- Teaching Assistant

I began my time at St. Michaels on Wyre working in the nursery, where I really adored helping the children’s little minds grow. After a few years, I began to spend more time assisting in the other classrooms throughout school. It has been fascinating to see how the different age groups learn and advance. I find it especially rewarding to see some of the children that I knew from nursery, growing up through the years. They may be taller and have shown lots of development, but their character and personalities are often still the same. My greatest passion is for the natural world and sciences, something that many children share in school. It truly makes my day when a child wants to have a discussion with me about animals, their pets, dinosaurs, volcanoes or just nature in general.

Mrs Claire Peters - Teaching Assistant

Having only joined the school in September, I am really enjoying my time working as Welfare Assistant, After School Club Assistant and providing TA cover when required.

I live in Great Eccleston with my husband Joseph and my 2 children Arthur & Albert , who also attend St Michael’s on Wyre. I enjoy spending weekends camping with my family and also walking and training our 5 month old puppy, Percy.

Miss Steph Bone - Teaching Assistant

I have been part of St. Michael's on Wyre C.E School & Nursery since the age of ten years old. I have worked as a Teaching Assistant here for 19 years. I love my job and working with all the children. I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with my little girls Sephora and Ophelia.

Mrs Helen Mansfield - Teaching Assistant

I have worked in schools for the past 12 years in varying roles and I am currently enjoying my new position as Teaching Assistant at St Michael's On Wyre. My favourite subjects in school are English, history and computing and I have run various clubs from school newspapers to gardening. I live in Cleveleys and enjoy spending my free time baking or crafting, or more accurately making a mess!
