Who's Who
Our School Team

Mrs Diane Carroll - Headteacher
Having taught across several schools within Lancashire for the last 30 years, I am loving my time at St. Michael’s as headteacher and have thoroughly enjoyed the last 9 years here. I live in Garstang with my husband Mick, as well as my two dogs Patch (a white cross breed) and Paddy (a black Labrador). I enjoy cycling and walking and spend most of my weekends rambling in our local countryside with the dogs or visiting my daughters in Newcastle and Birmingham. I also enjoy exploring new cities when I have the opportunity.
Mrs Melanie Jackson - Deputy Headteacher & Beech Class Teacher
After a successful career in Marketing, I made the exciting decision to return to university in 2011 and pursue a PGCE to become a primary school teacher. I was thrilled to begin my teaching journey at St. Michael’s on Wyre Primary School in 2013, and I’ve been fortunate to call this school my professional home ever since.
In 2019, I was appointed Deputy Headteacher, a role that has allowed me to build on my previous leadership and management experience. I deeply enjoy the challenges and opportunities that come with being part of the senior leadership team, while also continuing to teach in Beech Class, job sharing with Mrs. Shields, and covering teacher planning time in Ash and Willow Classes.
Outside of school, I live in New Longton with my husband, Julian, and our teenage son, Jack. I am passionate about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and enjoy practising yoga and more recently I’ve embraced weight training (thanks to Jack!). I also love spending time outdoors, and in particular going for walks with our beloved chocolate Labrador, Sky.
I am excited to continue contributing to the growth and success of St. Michael’s on Wyre Primary School & Nursery, supporting both our pupils and staff in creating a positive and enriching learning environment.
Mrs Rachel Shields - Beech Class Teacher
After graduating with a degree in English and then studying for a PGCE, I taught for 18 years at a school in Blackpool. During this time, I taught across both key stages. In 2019, I moved to teach at St. Michaels-on-Wyre to be the Year 1 Class teacher until September 2024 when I moved to Beech Class. I have relished all of the opportunities I have been given and I feel privileged to be able to play a part in educating young minds. I enjoy being a part of a close knit community and having so many generations of my family connected to the village, it makes teaching here even more special. I live in Garstang with my husband, son and tabby cat. In my spare time I like to read and sew; I also enjoy swimming and yoga.
Mrs Steph Hogarth- Elm Class teacher
Since graduating from Edge Hill University and qualifying as a teacher in 2013, I worked in Beech Class until 2024 and now I teach in Elm Class, here at St Michael's on Wyre. Mrs Nissa Renton- Teaching Assistant
I started at St-Michael's at the end of 2020 after many years of working across various early years settings and also as a childminder. It has been the best decision, I've made! I can now say I'm proud to be a part of such an amazing team.
I find working with our youngest children within school the most rewarding, to be there to help them grow, develop, and flourish before sending them off onto their school journey.

Both my colleagues and the children were so kind and caring from the onset and it is this caring community that makes St. Michael's Primary an amazing place to be.
